Tech and Video FAQ

1) Will the Teaching & Learning Symposium (TLS) provide video production support?
Yes. You will be connected with a Video Production Assistant (VPA). The VPA can provide support in planning, producing and editing your TLS video. The VPA can assist with the production and editing of video if it falls within the production schedule prior to the Symposium (e.g., the VPA will not be available for production and editing assistance during the week of the Symposium).

2) Will format-specific video guidelines be provided?
Yes. Guidelines on the length and technical criteria for each format (e.g., research on teaching presentation, lightning talk) will be sent to presenters with their notification of acceptance.

3) What equipment do I need to record a video for my TLS presentation?
A webcam or phone camera and video software (e.g., SnagIt, Teams) to record and edit videos. TLS will provide information on video styles, production and editing tips, and easy templates and guides to follow.

4) Will there be a facilitator during the session to assist registrants and/or answer technical questions?
You and/or your co-presenters are expected to moderate your session. Support will be available for every session should any attendee encounter technical issues.

5) Will I have the opportunity to test-drive my presentation and video before TLS?
We highly recommend that you run through your presentation using the online software and video (if you are using one) before the Symposium. The TLS team (programming, video production assistant, tech support) can help you with this process.

6) Who do I contact if I have any technical questions regarding my presentation and/or video production?
A contact list will be sent to presenters with their notification of acceptance. In the meantime, questions can be directed to ctsi.teaching@utoronto.ca.

7) Will I have support and information when creating my Inquiry on Teaching and Learning poster?
Yes. You will receive an information package with your acceptance notification that provide details on creating and presenting your poster presentation. Contact information for TLS support staff will be provided.

8) Will my TLS session be recorded?
If a presenter agrees, the session will be recorded. Pre-recorded videos (e.g., Lightning Talks) will be available for viewing prior to your session. All videos will be available on the TLS website for viewing beyond the dates of the Symposium.
